A couple of weeks ago, we already wrote that new BMW crossovers are being recalled in Russia due to a broken steering. Now BMW has again announced a recall campaign for its cars in Russia. This time the defect is much more complicated, the cars need a complete engine replacement. Such a defect was found in the B48 2.0-liter engine. This unit is installed on models G20 (3-Series), G30 (5-Series), as well as G11 (7-Series). This review includes models sold in Russia by official dealerships.

Well, the company is losing its trustworthiness status. The main reason why the engine will be replaced on the listed models is considered to be insufficiently strong bearing support for the balancing shaft in the unit itself. As a result of such a defect, it can lead to wear of the bearings themselves, as well as significantly damage the engine. The unit itself can jam or simply stall during the trip. As information from Rosstandart shows, only 10 cars will be recalled, but this is just the beginning. The problem will be solved in a cardinal way, replacing the engine with a new one, regardless of whether the native is out of order or not. This is not the first revocable BMW company associated with an engine breakdown. In February 2019, there was already a revocable BMW campaign in Russia regarding units that can spontaneously ignite in the exhaust gas recirculation system. Then the models of the 1-7 series, as well as the crossovers X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6, fell under the review. Dealerships had to fix the problem for free, the total number of BMW cars with breakdowns was about 1.6 million copies.

A little earlier, in January 2019, 684 BMW M550i xDrive and 750i (Li) xDrive sedans were recalled in Russia, which, due to errors in the electronic engine control unit, could lead to scuffing of the cylinder walls and subsequently seize or partially break the engine. October 2018 was marked in Russia by the recall of BMW G30 5-Series cars, which received defective crankshaft position sensors, and accordingly transmitted incorrect data to the on-board computer.

The same defect was discovered in July 2018 in 192 5-Series and 7-Series sedans. Given this trend of recall campaigns, we can say that BMW is losing its status as a reliable automotive manufacturer, which could previously surprise with the trouble-free operation of cars and their durability.
