The era of electric cars is developing rapidly and every car manufacturer is trying to present at least one electric model in its arsenal. If a couple of years ago, electric hatchbacks or sedans were popular, now this cell is occupied by electric crossovers.
Not so long ago, the electric crossover BMW iX 2021 was presented. Now, information has been revealed about what the BMW iX will be for Russia. The trial assembly of the electric car began in August 2019, but the official debut took place only in November 2020, and then without showing a live copy, but only in images. If in March 2021 the manufacturer disclosed only the approximate characteristics of the BMW iX, now the characteristics are disclosed in full.
On the territory of Russia, the new BMW iX 2021 will officially appear only in 2022, because the start of assembly will begin in November 2021. The electric crossover was assembled in Dingolfing, Germany. It is reliably known that the BMW iX 2021 in Russia will be presented in a single version, xDrive50. The power of the electric car is 523 hp, and the price of the BMW iX in Russia will start at 8.5 million rubles.
The basis for the new BMW iX is the modular CLAR platform, which is also used for the i4 liftback. Unlike most electric cars, the new BMW iX crossover has not received a luggage compartment under the hood. In fact, the hood does not open at all, if you do not take into account the small hatch for filling the wiper washer fluid.
An interesting point, washer fluid is consumed not only on the front and rear windows of the BMW iX, but also on all 5 cameras around the perimeter of the electric car. These cameras are paired with a large number of sensors, five radars and complex software. All this together helped to implement a number of driver assistants, various assistance systems, and in the near future the possibility of installing an autopilot of the 3rd level.
To ensure the maximum power reserve, the body of the BMW iX is made of different materials. We can say that this is a prefabricated plastic, steel, aluminum, thermoplastic and carbon fiber reinforced plastic. As for Russia and Europe, the crossover turned out to be large, because the length was 4953 mm, and the wheelbase was 3000 mm. If we take the USA for attention, then the new BMW iX was attributed to the mid-size crossover class.
Regardless of the country of delivery or continent, the interior of the new BMW iX 2021 will only have 5 seats and two rows of seats. In the standard version, the boot volume will be 500 liters, and when the second row of seats is folded down, it will increase to 1750 liters.
The steering wheel of the BMW iX turned out to be not quite familiar, it is 6-angle, not round. Also not quite the usual dashboard. Yes, it is digital, but it is a solid curved display on half of the front panel. In fact, these are two displays, 14.9 ″ and 12.3 ″, multimedia and a dashboard, respectively, placed under one continuous protective glass.
There is already a lot of criticism on the topic of the not quite familiar and convenient combination of the BMW iX dashboard and multimedia. Many people think that this approach is not entirely convenient, but the fact remains. Another interest, of course, is the technical characteristics of the BMW iX 2021. The basic version will be considered to be the xDrive40 configuration, which will not be available in Russia. One electric motor will be installed on the front and rear axles. The power of the front unit will be 272 hp. (352 Nm), and the rear engine is 340 hp. (400 Nm). The total power of the iX xDrive40 electric car will be 326 hp. (630 Nm).
As a heart, the manufacturer installed a battery with a capacity of 71 kWh. This gives the BMW iX a WLTP range of 425 kilometers. The basic equipment will overcome the first hundred on the speedometer in 6.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 200 km / h.
BMW iX xDrive50 will be brought to Russia. The complete set received a battery with a capacity of 105.2 kW * h. Thanks to her, the acceleration of an electric car to 100 km / h will take 4.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is the same 200 km / h. Total power 523 HP and 765 Nm of torque. According to WLTP measurements, the xDrive50 can travel 630 km on a single charge. So far, the manufacturer does not indicate the time for full charging, but with a station of 200 kW from 10% to 80% of the charge, it will take 35 minutes.
From the pleasant in the new BMW iX xDrive50 for Russia, there is a 4-zone climate control, a crossover heating package, a panoramic roof and a first row of electrically adjustable seats. The question remains whether the new BMW iX will be in demand in Russia. Considering the trend of sales of the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace in Russia (155 and 72 copies, respectively), the BMW iX will be in the crown if it can sell at least 1000 copies of this electric car. As many say, the quarantine has made its own adjustments.
