Ford Ranger is one of the most popular and mass-produced pickup trucks of the company, which has been on the assembly line for over 30 years. The first generation of the model was introduced back in 1983 and was a more compact version of the F-series pickups. In 1993, Ford introduced the second generation of the car, which received a new line of powertrains, a more spacious interior and a new exterior.

In October 2010, at the Australian Auto Show in Sydney, Ford demonstrated the 3rd generation of the "global" Ford Ranger pickup, which was presented in 180 countries, including Russia.

Despite the fact that pickups are not very popular in the domestic market, the new product was able to attract the attention of Russians, who were bribed not only by a wide range of modifications and excellent carrying capacity, but also by the sporty appearance of the car, which favorably distinguishes it against the background of faceless and frankly boring competitors.

In March 2015, the model underwent a restyling, during which the pickup received a more aggressive front end, as well as updated engines and electronics. The novelty went on sale in the European market at the beginning of 2016, while it is not yet known whether the car will reach the Russian consumer.

The restyled Ford Ranger is offered with 3 types of cabins - single, one-and-a-half and double. In the version with a double cab, the car is equipped with four doors, which greatly facilitates boarding for passengers in the second row.

The dimensions of the third generation "Ranger" are:

  • Length - depending on the type of cabin, it varies between 5277-5354 mm;
  • Width - 1860 mm (regardless of modification);
  • Height - varies from 1703 to 1848 mm;
  • Wheelbase - 3220 mm.


Despite the fact that the Ford Ranger cannot be considered a full-fledged SUV (it is more correct to classify the car as a small "truck"), it is distinguished by the presence of a very solid ground clearance of 232 mm. Thanks to this, the car is able to confidently storm bumps, as well as move along broken country roads.

In general, the new product has become much more attractive and dynamic, thanks to which the pickup is perceived not as a boring "hard worker", but as a modern car for active people.

More significant changes have taken place in the interior of the updated third generation Ford Ranger, where there is a completely new front panel, dashboard and steering wheel. From now on, the instrument panel is analog-digital, and the steering wheel, although it has an external resemblance to its predecessor, has received wider possibilities for controlling the multimedia and on-board system of the car.

The central part of the dashboard in more expensive trim levels is reserved for the modern SYNC multimedia system, equipped with a large 8-inch display. In basic modifications, in its place is a simpler toolkit with an audio system and a small screen. Under the multimedia / audio system there is a microclimate control unit, represented by a scattering of mechanical keys and two stylish spinners.

The architecture of the front panel looks fresh and modern, which is facilitated by stylish vertical air ducts and aluminum-effect trims, which give the interior nobility and high cost.


Moreover, in the cabin of the new Ranger, the manufacturer used high quality materials, which are still quite rare in the cabin of this class of cars.

The front seats have a well-profiled shape with tangible lateral support and a wide range of adjustments that allow a person of any size to sit comfortably.

In the one-and-a-half version, the second row of seats is more suitable for children and teenagers, while the seats of the double cab version can accommodate three adult passengers.

The volume of the trunk is large enough, and the dimensions of the cargo platform are 1549-2317 mm in length, 1560 mm in width and 511 mm in depth. It is important to emphasize that the pickup can easily take on board up to 1152 (1350) kg of cargo, and will also be able to tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 3.3 tons.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 for diesel versions varies between 11.8-10.2 seconds, and fuel consumption is about 6.5 l / 100 km, which is 1.3 liters less than its predecessor.


The gasoline engine is represented by a 2.5-liter aspirated engine producing 166 hp. at 226 Nm of torque. The fuel consumption of such an engine averages about 10.8-11 l / 100 km, which is a good indicator in the class.

The new Ford Ranger has an independent front suspension with two wishbones, and a leaf spring structure with a continuous axle at the rear. The braking system is represented by disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear. Facilitates control of the "truck" the presence of an electric power steering wheel.

Separately, it is worth highlighting the presence of a considerable ground clearance (232 mm), as well as exit / entry angles of only 28 degrees, thanks to which the pickup demonstrates good off-road capabilities. Also, according to the manufacturer, the car can overcome a ford up to 80 cm deep.

Ultimately, the restyled Ranger attracts attention with more efficient and fuel efficient engines, more comfortable suspension and significantly improved off-road characteristics that open up ample opportunities for movement.
