Step-by-step actions with photo support for removing the intermediate steering shaft and its further replacement in case of a malfunction.

The steering column is one of the important components of the car, which provides you and me with the possibility of safe driving on the roads. The defects indicated below can lead to breakdown (so it is worth eliminating them as soon as possible): play in cardan joints, damage or deformation of the intermediate shaft itself, or damage to its terminal connections with the steering gear shaft and steering shaft, and also all kinds of damage to the splines of the shaft connection with the steering wheel hub and with the intermediate shaft or deformation of the steering shaft.

To replace this part on a VAZ 2110 car and other models, you will need two keys for thirteen.

The procedure for replacing the steering intermediate shaft:

1. First you need to disconnect the wire from the "minus" terminal of the battery.

2. You will then need to remove the steering wheel and then disconnect the shaft bracket mount.

3. Unscrew the bolt of fastenings of the intermediate steering shaft to the shaft of the drive gear of the mechanism, then remove the steering column and the intermediate steering shaft assembly. 4. Later you will need to remove the shaft itself. This should be done in such a way as to obtain the necessary access to the bolt securing the intermediate axle on the steering shaft. Unscrew the nut while holding the bolt so that it cannot turn (with a second wrench). Then remove the bolt and remove the intermediate shaft from the steering splines.

5. Next, you need to remove the thrust bushing from the steering column axis of the car and carefully inspect it (be careful: the thrust bushing is installed with the side with a large diameter on the shaft).

6. Install a new intermediate rotating cylinder onto the splines of the machine's steering axle. Installation should be carried out in such a way that the hole in the universal joint for the bolt fits under the annular recess of the shaft. If necessary, first spread the attachment points on both sides of the intermediate axle using a large screwdriver. Fix the connection with a bolt and a nut.

7. Slide the countershaft onto the splines of the steering gear drive gear to be replaced (the bump on the axle must be turned to the right).

8. Put the bracket on the mounting studs, and also put the mounting bolts and nuts. Next, slide the intermediate gear onto the drive gear shaft, and then install the mounting bolt. Next, screw on the remaining mount.

9. Install in the reverse order the steering wheel and the base with the steering column switches.
That's all. Replacing the intermediate shaft on a VAZ 2110 car is finished!
