The latest two-door sports coupe from Renault Sport R.S. 01 was presented by the great racer Alain Prosty at the company's stand at the Moscow International Motor Show in late summer 2014.

The elongated, flattened, streamlined body with a rear wing located at the back speaks unambiguously about the speed and sportiness of the car. And the orange color is intended to emphasize her hot temper. The futuristic headlights and taillights of the car are impressive. The stylish design, designed under the supervision of Laurence van den Acker, emphasizes the power and speed of the machine.
Side air intakes allow air to flow to the engine located at the rear of the machine. The rear bumper has two tailpipes. Along the edges of the bumper, ribs are mounted that create turbulences knocking down the turbulence from the rotating wheels. 18-inch lightweight wheels with central locking, which replaced the landing bolts, look beautiful. Despite its large dimensions, the car looks harmonious and light. The new car is equipped with special seats with improved ergonomics, ensuring comfort during long driving.
Sports car Renault Sport R.S. 01 will clearly compete for victory in the new Renault Sport Trophy. It invites mixed crews, both professional and amateur, to compete and alternate between short races and endurance races. The excellent aerodynamics of the teardrop body are designed to help future race victories. In addition, the aerodynamics of the car provides good grip, even exceeding the FIA GT3 category and already quite close to the DTM.

All components of the car are mounted in a carbon fiber monocoque body, designed by the famous Italian manufacturer Dallara. It is rigidly mounted on a V-shaped six-cylinder Nismo engine with a volume of 3.8 liters and 2 turbines, providing the car with a speed in excess of three hundred kilometers per hour.
This is a modified version of the Nissan GT-R engine with power reduced to 500 horsepower and torque limited to 600 Newton meters. The torque is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 7-speed sequential gearbox from Sadev. The famous French manufacturer Michelin has developed for the Renault Sport R.S. 01 special racing tires. The lightweight outer shells are made of carbon fiber. The layout with the drive only to the rear wheels, the very widespread use of carbon fiber in the construction has made it possible to reduce the weight of the sports coupe to 1100 kg. The design of the sports coupe fully complies with the LMP1 class.
High dynamics Renault Sport R.S. 01 requires a reliable braking system, which is powered by 6-piston calipers and 380mm carbon discs and Bosch Motorsport ABS. Reliable grip of the car is provided by means of a suspension with double wishbones and adjustable shock absorbers, designed by Ohlins. Safe driving was given great attention during the development and it meets all the latest safety requirements. The car is equipped with a large capacity fuel tank - 150 liters, allowing you to successfully participate in races. A special net is placed in the trunk in order to hold things with light and convenient fasteners.

Renault is positioning the new sports coupe as the latest and greatest racing car. Official figures for the price of the new car were not announced. However, there is reason to believe that it is close and perhaps even exceeds a million euros. Sports cars of this class are available to few for their price and performance. But they are paving the way for the future. Quite a little time will pass and many of the solutions that we saw in the sports coupe Renault Sport R.S. 01, will become familiar to the serial cars of this company and available to a wide range of drivers. And in the near future, the car shown at the auto show will take part in the Renault Sport Trophy races. As noted, the mixed crew will consist of a professional and an amateur. Moreover, the professional winner will probably take part in the Super GT championship in Japan. And the amateur winner will have a chance to try out a prototype of the LMP2 category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
