During the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a pre-production version of its premium all-electric minibus, dubbed the EQV. Thus, the Germans are becoming pioneers in this class.

As befits a car with a three-point star on a false radiator grille, the Mercedes-Benz EQV has a stylish and presentable appearance, a spacious and high-quality interior, as well as advanced technical equipment, including a high-performance electric motor.

According to official data, the production version of the model will be shown at the annual Frankfurt Motor Show, which is scheduled to start on September 12 this year.

In the meantime, everyone is waiting for the premiere, let's figure out what, in addition to the electric power plant, the manufacturer intends to attract potential buyers.

The appearance of the EQV 2020

The new Mercedes-Benz EQV boasts a dynamic and, let's not be afraid of the word, spectacular appearance. The front part of the body sports a massive false radiator grille with a large logo in the center, formidable head optics with LED running lights and a neat bumper with a wide air intake mesh.

When looking at the car from the side, massive wheel arches, large front doors and rear side doors sliding towards the stern are striking. There is also a large glazing area and a barely sloping roof line, on which the roof rails are installed.

The stern of the minibus demonstrates large vertical side lights, a neat bumper and just a huge luggage compartment lid, most of which is occupied by the rear window.

It is expected that the dimensions of the Mercedes-Benz EQV will correspond to the previously presented Mercedes V-class:

Length, mm4895
Width, mm1880
Height, mm1928
Wheel base length, mm3200

In addition to the standard version, a mid-size and long-size modification is also expected, the length of which is 5140 and 5370 mm, respectively.

There is also no doubt that the manufacturer will prepare a wide palette of body colors that can satisfy the needs of the lion's share of potential buyers. And those for whom it is not enough can always order an exclusive color scheme - however, in this case, you will have to part with an impressive amount of money.

Salon Mercedes-Benz EQV 2020

The interior of Mercedes-Benz EQV is made in the corporate style of the latest models of the company: smooth lines, a minimum number of mechanical switches, excellent build quality and materials used.

In front of the driver, there is a well-readable dashboard, represented by a pair of analog dials and a large LCD display of the on-board computer, where you can display various information, up to navigation. There is also a plump three-spoke multifunction steering wheel.

In the central part of the dashboard, the dominant place is given to the large touch screen of the media center, under which there is a minimalistic microclimate control unit, and even lower there are several functional buttons.

For the front passengers, high-quality seats are prepared with a large number of all kinds of adjustments, but insufficient lateral support. However, given the class and purpose of the car, this is not so important.

The standard cabin is designed for 6 seats, but a version for 7 and 8 passengers will be offered as an option.

The second and third row of seats offer a large number of adjustments and ample free space in all directions. The second row seats can be rotated 180 degrees, as well as moved in the longitudinal direction (the same function is available for third row riders).

The volume of the luggage compartment, depending on the location and the number of seats, can vary between 1030-4630 liters.

Also, the manufacturer has provided for the presence of a spare wheel, which is located "on the street" under the bottom of the car. The solution may not be the most practical, but it has increased the amount of useful space in the trunk.

As in the case of the exterior, the manufacturer will offer a wide range of finishes, but even in the base of the car it will be able to boast of soft plastics, leather-trimmed seats and metal elements in the interior.

The most interesting thing in the new product is a power plant with a capacity of 150 kilowatts, generating 201 "horses" and powered by a 90 kW / h lithium-ion battery. This is enough for the car to travel about 400 km on a single charge.

The battery supports the proprietary quick-charge function, which allows you to replenish a charge of energy sufficient to overcome 100 km in just 15 minutes. The car recharges from the household network much longer.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the dynamic characteristics of the Mercedes-Benz EQV, but we can assume that it will take a little more than 8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100, and the maximum speed will easily exceed the 200 km / h mark.

Like its gasoline and diesel "brothers", the novelty is built on the basis of the modernized trolley of the previous Mercedes Viano, which assumes the presence of front MacPherson struts and rear oblique levers.

The steering sports a variable-power electric booster, and the braking system - ventilated disc mechanisms on the front axle and conventional discs on the rear.

But recall that the serial version of the Mercedes EQV may receive slightly modified technical characteristics - in particular, more powerful and high-performance electric motors.

Equipment level and prices for the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQV

Since the car has not yet been officially presented, there is no need to talk about its exact cost. But we can already safely say that its price will definitely surpass the cost of an ordinary Mercedes V-class, the minimum cost of which in Russia starts at 3.097 million rubles.

The list of standard equipment will definitely include:

  • disc brakes on both axles (front ventilated);
  • wheel disks R16;
  • exterior mirrors with heating function and electrically adjustable;
  • halogen optics and LED DRLs;
  • multifunction steering wheel;
  • headlights corrector;
  • climate control;
  • cruise control system;
  • media system with LCD touch display;
  • interior with combined trim;
  • tracking system for "dead" zones and the state of the "pilot";
  • sensors for tracking the level of pressure in the wheels;
  • audio system;
  • seat belts;
  • front and side airbags, as well as side curtains;
  • power windows;
  • anti-lock and ESP system;
  • back view camera;
  • parking sensors;
  • seat belts and more.

As an option, buyers will be able to order a premium Burmester speaker system, panoramic roof, multi-zone climate control, a folding table, a separately opening rear window and an electric tailgate, leather seats, etc.

It is expected that the official sales of Mercedes EQV will begin in the first quarter of 2020, and somewhere at the same time, we should expect the appearance of a minibus on the domestic market.

Conclusion

Mercedes EQV is a stylish, bright and practical minibus, which has a high-performance and highly environmentally friendly electric motor, ample opportunities for transforming the cabin and, of course, a lot of advanced equipment.

All this prompts the idea that the model can become a real bestseller on the market and one of the best family cars of our time.
